‘EU’s COP stance latest sign of divisions on climate transition’
Jon Lawes, Managing Director at MHC Mobility, a leading pan-European leasing business providing fleet solutions across all asset types and industry sectors, comments on the European mobility sector following today’s (21 November) ACEA vehicle registration figures.
“The industry is facing a difficult road ahead with European policymakers ducking the big questions on climate change and tariffs, which threatens to slow down the transition to net-zero and make European manufactured EVs uncompetitive.
“We need politicians to reach a resolution around the rules of origin tariffs, to support a strong European EV manufacturing base and create more affordable options for consumers, instead of measures that risk eroding confidence in the EV market. This, together with the watering down of the EU’s COP28 negotiating position on fossil fuel emissions, is a reminder of the divided transition priorities between European states and the long road still ahead.”
