Jon Lawes, Managing Director at MHC Mobility, a leading pan-European leasing business providing fleet solutions across all asset types and industry sectors, comments on the European mobility sector following today's (18 January) ACEA vehicle registration figures showing electric vehicles overtook diesel vehicles in popularity among buyers in 2023:

“As the European Commission starts its probe into the impact of cheaper Chinese EVs on the continent, the focus for corporate fleets will be on access to affordable, quality models and what that means for the transition to net zero.

“While Europe’s car giants need to urgently sure-up their own battery supply chains, policymakers must recognise that Chinese EVs, rising in prominence as sales soar, are likely to be welcomed by corporate and private buyers concerned about entry costs, and could be an important piece of the transition puzzle.”
