The electric car has become a symbol of sustainable transport, but it alone will not solve the problem of increasing road, parking, and infrastructure for cars. However, there is hope! There is another popular means of transport that takes up only a fraction of the space of a car, can be charged with a regular socket, and benefits the health and well-being of its users.

Here are five reasons why e-bikes are a smart addition to any business fleet, benefiting both the environment and the company.

  1. E-bikes are popular worldwide The global market for electric bicycles was worth £12.2 billion in 2020 and is expected to reach £37.9 billion by 2028. The US market is experiencing the most significant growth, with an estimated 600,000 e-bikes sold in 2020, almost double the number of electric cars sold.

  2. E-bikes are great for commuting E-bikes are primarily used for commuting. A recent survey by McKinsey & Co found that 32% of respondents in the US preferred to commute by bike (electric or traditional). For example, in Warsaw, cycling is a great way to save time and money due to traffic congestion and parking issues. Warsaw is the most congested capital city in the EU, and drivers in the seven largest Polish cities lose PLN 3.8 billion a year due to traffic congestion.

  3. E-bikes provide the same benefits as traditional bikes The health benefits of cycling are well documented. Employees who commute by bike are less likely to take sick days and are more productive than colleagues who drive. E-bikes provide all the same benefits as traditional bikes, with growing evidence to support this.

  4. E-bike infrastructure benefits everyone Infrastructure built for e-bikes can also be used for traditional bikes, but the reverse is not always true. Racks designed for non-powered bikes may not be suitable for e-bikes due to their weight and charging requirements.

  5. E-bikes require less space and maintenance than cars E-bikes are much cheaper to maintain than cars, and they take up less space. Parking spaces are costly, whether provided for free or at a cost to the employee.
